Sport Premium Fund

At Netherton, we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of the children. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all our children.

Our Primary School Sport’s Funding will enable us to continue and extend our provision through employing additional sports professionals, entering into more competitive sports competitions and training our staff to deliver in-house quality PE sessions.

What is the Sports Premium?

In March 2013 the government announced that they would introduce a dedicated primary P.E. and Sports Premium that would go directly to primary school head teachers so that they could decide how best to use it to provide sporting activities for pupils. Every year since then schools have continued to receive the funding in order to develop sports provision.

Schools are held accountable for how they utilise this money based on 5 Key Indicators:

– The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – the Chief Medical Officer guidelines recommend that all children and young people aged 5 to 8 engage in at least 60 minutes of physical activity a day, of which 30 minutes should be in school.

– The profile of PE and sport is raised across the school as a tool for whole-school improvement.

– Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport.

– Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils.

– Increased participation in competitive sport.
