Computing
At Netherton, we aspire for all pupils to be competent and safe users of ICT and to develop pupils in becoming digitally literate in an ever changing and expanding digital world. We wish to foster a love for computing and provide children with the knowledge and skills they need to access a digital world, whilst keeping safe online. Our aim is to encourage children to use, express and develop their ideas through a range of technology, apps and programs throughout their time at Netherton.
We recognise that Computing will play a huge role in children’s lives, at school, in further education and in adult life, so want to ensure that their experiences and ability in ICT are effective and transferable.
The Computing Curriculum
The computing curriculum covers three areas: computer science, information technology and digital literacy (E-Safety).
- Computer Science – this focuses on the coding and programming side of computing. At Netherton we use Espresso Coding and this is built on in each year group.
- Information Technology – this allows children to apply their skills and showcase their understanding on software such as Word, PowerPoint and Publisher.
- Digital Literacy – this focuses on teaching children to understand how technology works and how they can be responsible and safe users of the internet (E-Safety).
