Year 4

Hello from Year 4!
Year 4 are taught by Miss Brook and are supported by Mrs Petts.
Hello from myself! I am Miss Brook and I am the class teacher. In year 4 we offer all children a supportive and friendly environment where we are constantly learning. We have a wonderful time in our class where we encourage kindness, teamwork and respect and to make sure that all children feel valued and challenged. We have a variety of fun and engaging topics that we love teaching and learning!

English
The children are encouraged to visit Spelling Shed each week to practice and revise the statutory spellings for Year 4. We have recently introduced a new spelling scheme called Cracking Spelling which digs deep into the roots of spelling rules. This includes three short sessions each week which are practical and inclusive.
We often use class books to deliver our writing curriculum and the pupils really get a lot out of these as we incorporate EGSP, book talk and writing. Where possible, we try and link the books we choose topically, whether it be our main topic, science topic or even linking it to RSE. The books we are going to be looking at in English are:
Autumn Term:
Have You Filled a Bucket Today?
The Egyptian Cinderella
A Walk in Paris
A Walk in London
Secrets of The Sun King
Spring Term:
Beowulf
How to Train Your Dragon
How to Survive a Viking Raid
How to be a Viking
Summer Term:
Firebird
The Firework- Maker’s Daughter
The Boy at the Back of the Class
Escape from Pompeii

To celebrate our love of reading and reading for pleasure, we have a weekly book club where children bring in the books they have read or are reading and share them with the class. One child each week has the opportunity to document and illustrate parts of their book in our class reading journal which is also shared in our book club.

Recently in Year 4…

In Computing, we are currently learning about the world wide web. The children created fabulous posters about how to stay safe when sharing information online.

The children enjoyed making Anglo-Saxon inspired brooches in Art! We looked at the history of brooches, created a design and finally made them using various materials, cutting and sticking.

Recently, Year 4 had fantastic discussions surrounding dreams, resilience and hard work. The children worked in groups and presented their ideas to the class!

A big well done to these children who have recently achieved 25/25 on TTRS and turned their heatmap green. Keep practicing Year 4!
