Languages

The teacher in charge of Languages is Mrs B Harding.

French is the modern foreign language that we teach formally in our school.

The curriculum that we follow is based on the guidance given in the Key Stage 2 Framework for Languages, the National Curriculum Non-Statutory Guidelines for MFL and ‘Primary Languages Network’ scheme of work for French at Key Stage 1 and  2.

We teach the children to know and understand how to:

• ask and answer questions;

• use correct pronunciation and intonation;

• memorise words;

• interpret meaning;

• understand basic grammar;

• use dictionaries;

• work in pairs and groups to communicate in the other language;

• look at life in another culture.

We plan opportunities for language learning in the teaching of other subjects. Children in Foundation Stage and in Key Stage 1 are introduced to languages with taster sessions prior to the more formal teaching in KS2.
